Abstract

ASSESSMENT OF ORAL HEALTH STATUS AMONG DENTAL STUDENTS OF A TEACHING INSTITUTE IN BELGAUM, KARNATAKA - A QUESTIONNAIRE STUDY

ABSTRACT

Introduction: The attitude of the dental student towards their own oral health will reflect their commitment towards improving the oral health of their patients. In order to improve the oral health of the community an oral health survey was conducted to assess the oral health status in a selected population among the dental students to know the awareness and practices carried by these dental students in Maratha Mandal's Dental College and Research Centre Belgaum, Karnataka, India. Materials and Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional Study was carried out among 150 dental students of Maratha Mandal's Dental College and Research Centre Belgaum, Karnataka, India, where a survey was conducted by using preformed set of multiple choice questions consisting of 10 questionnaire and the mean percentage score were analyzed and calculated. Conclusion: The students in this study showed poor oral health awareness. As a future health care professionals it is required to have a knowledge about the oral health and its effects for better patient appraisal.
