ABSTRACT
Ayurveda, the holistic and complete life science was developed in Indian subcontinent by the great ancient sages. It is one of the oldest medical tradition of the world. The doctrine of Ayurveda is based on the harmony of sarira-manasa dosas viz. vata pitta, kapha & sattva, raja, tama. Equilibrium state of sarira-manasa dosas provides healthy status to human body, where as imblance status causes diseases. This status is synchronizing by the nature using materials present in nature. Under the four pillars of successful treatment drugs occupied important second position. Drug is a tool of physician. Appropiate drug can only serve the problem. Keeping this view in mind our ancient Acharyas were much more concerned about minutest parts of the bhesajagara/rasasala. They concentrated not only on the construction, interior plans and arrangements, appointment of skilled attendants for different sections of pharmacy. WHO has also given a set of legal guidelines that has to be followed for the production of the medicine.GMP deals with all the aspects from collection of raw drug till the dispensing of the finished product. It also deals with premises and equipment to the training and personal hygiene of staff. With the adaptation of the GMP a good quality medicine can be prepared. Though this concept of GMP came into existence recently, the concepts related to this can be found in the literature of Ayurveda.
