Abstract

KNOWLEDGE AND PRACTICE OF NURSING PROCESS AMONG NURSES IN UNIVERSITY OF CALABAR TEACHING HOSPITAL, CROSS RIVER STATE, NIGERIA.

ABSTRACT

The study examines the knowledge and practice of nursing process among nurses in University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Calabar. Four research objectives were used to determine the influence of knowledge, culture, and availability of resources on the practice of nursing process in UCTH. Descriptive design with a sample of one hundred and twenty (120), selected through a cluster and purposive sampling techniques was employed for this study. Research questions and a self-administered questionnaire was used to collect quantitative data. Data analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings of the study revealed that there is a significant relationship between the independent variables knowledge, culture and availability of resources with the practice of nursing process. Based on these findings, recommendations were made, one of which is that, nursing process should be adapted to fit into the culture of Nigeria.
