ABSTRACT
IgA nephropathy is the most prevalent primary chronic glomerular disease worldwide. However, the requirement of a kidney biopsy for diagnosis hinders delineation of the full consequences of this disease. The identification of risk factors conditioning the progression of immunoglobulin Ig A nephropathy is needed due to the variability of the outcome of this kidney disease, Therapy is modulated from renin-angiotensin inhibitors to corticosteroids, alone or associated with other powerful but potentially harmful immunosuppressors. This review will focus on the clinical and histological data and risk factors which may presently be considered of value for prognostication of outcome in patients with Ig A nephropathy, driving the individual treatment choice.
