ABSTRACT

Introduction and Aim: Emergency services are the medical facilities that offer service continually for the patients who need emergent medical care. It is considered that emergency crowding varies by the time period of the day and although there is no data reported in the literature, the least crowded duration is known as the time period between 04:00 a.m. and 07:00 p.m. We aimed to investigate the properties of the patients who refer to emergency service in this anticipated time period and compare these finding with other time periods of the day. Material and Methods: A total of 440 patients over 15 who refer to Training and Research Hospital Emergency Department between the dates of 01.11.2015 and 30.12.2015 and between the time interval of 04:00 a.m. – 07:00 p.m. was taken into the study. Patients were evaluated in 3 categories such as green, yellow and red areas according to the priorities. Results: The total number of patients in between the whole time period of one month was 25.226 and the patients who refer between the time of 04.00 a.m. and 07.00 a.m. with the number of 440. In the time period we formed our study, the most complaints of the patients were pain in any site of body. After triage, of these 440 patients, %8.86 was accepted into red field, %52.7 of them was into yellow field and %38.4 was into green field. The mean age of the populations was 31,96 ± 17,62. It was reported that 409 patients (%92,95) were discharged, 21 patients (%4,77) were hospitalized into clinics, 9 patients were transferred to other hospitals for any reason such as need for intensive care or demand of patient and one patient died. The majority of patients who were hospitalized or transferred to intensive care units were from red field. Conclusion: Together with the data from literature, it can be commented that the patients who referred to emergency department in between the hours of 04.00 a.m. and 07.00 a.m. and were included into our study are seen to have a priority in terms of emergency status.
