ABSTRACT
Occurrence of acute varicella zoster virus (VZV) infection or chickenpox is very common in childhood as mild infection. However, chickenpox is found to be increased in adults and adolescents who are immunosuppressed individuals and be at a higher risk of severe infection. Antiviral therapy is commonly used to treat its associated ameliorates symptoms and decreases the severity of chickenpox if administered early in the course of the infection. Passive immunization with varicella zoster immunoglobulin (VZIG) dose may prevent or attenuate infection followed to the exposure of varicella to an immunocompromised or pregnant individual or a neonate. Active immunisation is also available many developed countries to reduce its risk in population.
