Abstract

MANAGEMENT OF AMAVATA THROUGH AYURVEDA MEDICINES: A CASE REPORT

ABSTRACT

Amavata is disorder associated with impairment of Agni which mainly involves accumulation of Ama and vitiation of Vata Dosha. The accumulated Ama combines with vitiated Vata Dosha and affects Shleshmasthana (Asthisandhi) which in result Amavata. As per modern science Amavata can be correlated to the rheumatoid arthritis on the basis of symptomatic features. Modern science suggested uses of NSAID’s, DMARD’s, immunosuppressant and glucocorticoids, etc. for the treatment of disease. Ayurveda described natural ways of treating disease without any side effects. Langhana, Swedana, Virechana and Vasti, etc. can be employed along with Tikta and Katu Rasa medicines. These modalities offer Vatashamana, Strotoshodhana, Sthana Balya and Amapachana effects thus helps to treat Amavata. This article presented a case report of Amavata treated successfully with Ayurveda modalities. Marked improvement in signs and symptoms was observed after treatment without any severe complications.
