TREND OF ADVERTISEMENTS IN POPULAR TAMIL TELEVISION CHANNELS AND THEIR RELEVANCE TO HEALTH

ABSTRACT
Duration of viewership time of Television advertisements (ads) among popular tamil channels and their content were studied by 24 hours of t.v viewing of channels and assessed for any non-branded health messages. The ads occupy 21% of viewership time and focus mainly on cosmetics and eatables with no time given for general health messages. There is a huge scope for regulating these ads in order for greater public reach for general health education content.
