ABSTRACT
Amavata, as its name implies, consists of the two terms Ama and Vata. The manifestation known as Amavata occurs when Ama and Vata get vitiated concurrently and are deposited in the joints, the sacral area, the gut, and the sandhi, where they cause Shotha (edema), Shoola (pain), and Stabdhata (stiffness). The Apakva Aahar rasa that results from a compromised Jatharagni is at the AMA stage, which leads to Sarvadoshaprakopa. The Ayurvedic process of biopurification is called vivechana. Virechana is the term for doshas that are discharged from the body through the anal channel. Because Manadagni is macromolecular in nature, it forms AMA, which accumulates in the Sukshma srotas and creates Srotavarodha (obstruction of the channels). Thus, one of the key bio-purificative techniques that is recommended for the total eradication of Doshas and, consequently, the eradication of ailments, is Virechana karma.
